I am pleased to report that Pepe and Scruffy are doing well.
Pepe's wound is healing well. Very lucky. Scruffy is not limping now. Very lucky.

Pepe and Scruffy get sick in the same week
Last week I was busy minding Pepe and Scruffy. They are doing good now. Off to the vet tomorrow again with Pepe. What would we all do without the great vets

Scruffy bites the lock off the stables door
I brought Scruffy and Pixie into the stables as I was waiting on Linda Thompson, from The Donkey Sanctuary, to do a home check. Off I went to the shops to grab

The Diary

15 January 2010

Today was tough.

Jenny would not eat and she was very low in herself. I waited a while and then I listened to my instincts and I rang the vet. Anya from The Animal Health Centre in Ramelton came out immediately.

Poor Jenny was diagnosed as having colic so Anya got into action straight away. She gave her painkillers, anti spasm medication for her gut and intravenous anitbiotics. Anya also helped me to give Jenny liquid paraffin.

The good news is Jenny has passed some poo although it is very hard and dry.

So I am waiting to see how Jenny does. She is due another dose of liquid paraffin before midnight and she has some hay and luke warm water to keep her going.

Anya was so good to Jenny and she did all that was necessary to deal with the colic.

Initially I was afraid to call the vet as I live so far away but I am so glad I did as Jenny was sick and she needed veterinary care. I'd hate to waste the vet's time calling her out all this way but thankfully I was right to call the vet. I struggled with my instincts but I just stood back and looked at Jenny and she looked so tired and worn out and "flat" - for want of a better word.

I want to thank Samuel Jacob who helped me with Jenny throughout the day. Samuel is a cattle farmer, and a good one, and he called up to me just to see if I needed hay and it was when he called I noticed that Jenny was off form. Samuel came and went all through the day to help me with Jenny and he brought me a dosing gun for giving the liquid paraffin to Jenny. Samuel held Jenny for me as I gave her the liquid paraffin. So thank you to Samuel for helping me all day. I needed help and Samuel was there for me today.

I will keep you posted on how Jenny does.

You all know how much I adore Jenny. I know she is very old but I hope she gets through this.

I'll say no more as I am sad.

A very kind man called Gerard Mc Closkey from Derry sent me a £40 donation. Thank you Gerard for you kindness. It will go towards my vet bill for Jenny. There are kind people out there.
