The Diary
7 July 2010
My cousin Patrick is still painting the outside of the cottage so I got out of his way to let him work and I went to Maheroarty beach to see if the sea was wild in the wild winds.
I took Bubbles with me for company. I could not go for a walk today as am sore from yesterday's short walk but I still wanted to see the beach and the mad waves.
I took loads of photos but I only kept one: a windsurfer in action off the shores of Inisbofin. I used to windsurf years ago and so I was delighted to be treated to a spectacular display of skill by this accomplished windsurfer. He surfed the thrashing waves while catching the high winds with his sail. Such skill. I was never that good. I could only manage a force 4 wind. Whoever this man was, he could even gybe in a massive sudden gust. I was aboslutely in awe of his skill.
Watching this man windsurf brought back good memories.
The rain has gone and the sky is blue but it is still very windy so I kept a coat on Bláithín today to make sure she is warm.
Samuel Jacob came up and trimmed the fuschia all along the bothareen. Fuschia is a beautiful shrub but it does grow very fast at this time of year and it can take over. So I make sure to keep it in check or I'd have no room to drive my jeep down the bothareen.
This is the time of year I usually get the outside of the cottage painted and it looks so beautiful when it is done. A white washed cottage peeps out from off the road. The cottage really shines when it is freshly painted.
Time to feed Pluto, Blossie, Pepe, Tess, Bubbles, Sandy and Meg. Let the mayhem begin.
Tonight we will all sit by the fire and relax. I'll let the dogs decide which movie we will watch.
Keep your hat glued to your head in this wind
